Anant Chaturdashi, Bhadrapada Shuddha Chaturdashi is the day of Anant Puja and is celebrated as a fast and festival. When the Pandavas prayed to Lord Krishna in exile, Krishna told them to do this as anantavrat, desired-fruitful. In Anantpujan, a rope is wrapped around Udak-kalsha. That rope is to be held as sacred next. The spread of this vrata is special in Vaishnavism. They observe this fast for fourteen years.
The practice of installing Ganesha on Ganesh Chaturdashi and immersing Anant Chaturthi in a public and festive manner is common in Maharashtra and to a lesser extent in other states of India.
