The story of Gulshan Kumar, the owner of T-Series Company, popularly known as Cassette King, is no less than a film script. In this article we will know how Gulshan Kumar died. Gulshan Kumar had nothing to do with music or business. There was a time when he used to run a juice shop with his father in Daryaganj, Delhi. His luck took a tremendous turn. He went from juice maker to cassette king. In the 80s, he founded T-Series and by the 90s he became famous as the Cassette King. T series had become a company of crores.
Who was Gulshan Kumar
Gulshan Kumar Dua, was an Indian businessman and film and music producer who was the founder of Super Cassettes Industries Limited (T-Series) music label in the Bollywood industry. He founded T-Series in the 1980s and established it as a major record label in the 1990s. T-Series is now run by his son Bhushan Kumar. His daughter Tulsi Kumar is a playback singer.
How Gulshan Kumar died
Gulshan Kumar died on 12 August 1997 due to bullet injuries, in fact it was a ransom murder by an underworld don. Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and Abu Salem are named in Gulshan Kumar’s murder. It is said that Dawood Ibrahim had demanded a ransom of 10 crores from Gulshan Kumar. Gulshan Kumar had refused to pay this amount. He had said that instead of giving him (David) money, he would prefer to do Bhandara in Vaishno Devi with that money. Thereafter he was murdered.
However, due to the threat to his life, Gulshan Kumar was provided security. But he was provided security by UP Police instead of Mumbai Police. On the day Gulshan Kumar was killed, his bodyguard was ill. That’s why he was not with them. Maria has written in her book that the crime branch had provided her security. But when the UP Police provided him with commando security, the Mumbai Crime Branch withdrew its security.
Gulshan Kumar was a devotee of Vaishno Devi. He had deep faith in Vaishno Devi. He did a lot of work for the convenience of the devotees in Vaishno Devi. Apart from this, he used to visit Jeeteshwar Mahadev Temple in Jeetnagar in Andheri area of west Mumbai daily. On August 12, 1997, Gulshan Kumar had reached the temple to worship at around eight o’clock in the morning.
Before his death, Gulshan Kumar had called a producer at seven in the morning. He had said that he would go to the temple after meeting a singer and then a friend. After that he will come to meet her. Three hours after Gulshan Kumar called, news came that he had been shot dead outside the Jiteshwar Mahadev temple. As soon as the news of his murder spread, sensation spread throughout the country including Bollywood.
Cassette king Gulshan Kumar was hit by 16 bullets. It would be about half past ten. Gulshan Kumar was going out after offering prayers in the temple. That’s when he felt a bullet in his back. He saw a man in front with a gun in his hand. Gulshan Kumar asked the person standing in front, ‘What are you doing? He replied, ‘You have done a lot of worship, now go upstairs and do it’. After this, before Gulshan Kumar could say anything, he started firing on him.
16 rounds of gun were fired at him. There were 16 bullets in his neck and back. To escape, he kept banging the doors of the nearby houses. But no one opened the door. At that time only his driver was with Gulshan Kumar. The driver started throwing urns at the killers to save his master. But the killers did not stop, they kept firing. He also shot the driver in the leg, injuring him there.
According to media information, Gulshan Kumar was killed by two sharp shooters Dawood Merchant and Vinod Jagtap at the behest of Abu Salem. On 9 January 2001, Vinod Jagtap confessed that he had shot Gulshan Kumar. After which he was sentenced to life imprisonment in the year 2002. Dawood Merchant was also sentenced to life imprisonment in this case. Mumbai Police after its investigation had said that film personalities and mafia people are responsible for the murder of Gulshan Kumar.
